St. Philip’s IRS (Kamsack)

1928-1969
Operated by Roman Catholic Church

Began as a boarding school on Keeseekoosee FN in 1902. Poor conditions led to its 1914 closure. It reopened in 1927 as the St. Philip’s school, but not at the same location. in 1957 the farm school closed down and the boarding school became a residence for children attending local day schools. During the 1960s widespread physical and sexual abuse reported, and a school superintendent was dismissed for mistreating students.
