In 1894, the school’s principal, Sister Hamel, was placing the blame for the school’s troubles on the children’s parents, writing that The difficulty in that respect comes from the parents, who, though pleased with the institution, seem unable to control their inclination for unrestricted liberty and their unreasonable fondness for having their children with them.
